Bill C-13 leads to gambling changes in Canada
In November 2020, the Canadian federal government introduced C-13 – a bill that aims to legalize single-event sports betting. As for now, punters in Canada cannot bet on separate sports events as it is illegal by the Criminal Code. Punters who want to wager on certain competitions have to do it in a parlay fashion, i.e. bet on many sports events simultaneously.
Bill C-13 aims to give a start to gambling changes in Canada. According to the bill, the change will still maintain the pari-mutuel system of horse racing betting but allow punters to bet on outcomes of single sports events. The bill aims to remove the law forbidding single sports betting. In the case of the passage of the bill, all territories in Canada will be given the right to regulate single-sports betting as they want.
