Michigan launched online casinos and sportsbooks
On January 22, Michigan officially allowed the launching of online casinos and betting sites. It became the third US state that approved online gambling.
Following the latest online gambling news, Michigan gave permission to nine gambling platforms to launch sports betting and online gaming. They are three Detroit online casinos and 7 “Class III” casinos. Later on, the Michigan Gaming Control Board is expected to authorize more providers to launch online gambling activities. The first results on online gambling in the state will be announced at the end of January 2021.
According to Richard Kalm, MGCB Executive Director, changes in online gambling laws in Michigan will positively affect local economics. The state and local governments are expecting extra tax revenue to come along with online gaming and betting.
How can new online gambling laws in Michigan affect other states?
As we have recently written, several other US states may launch online casinos in 2021. New York, Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Massachusetts are on their way to accepting online gambling and sports betting. The positive experience of Michigan can forward this process if the experiment is successful.
Just to remind you, US states have been trying hard to allow online gambling within their borders. Thus, Alaska passed two bills to make online gambling sites legal in 2020 but its attempts failed. Massachusetts has been fighting for the legalization of online gambling since 2018. Finally, New York didn’t get an allowance to give a start to online betting and casino sites as well.
